LET YOUR GPS TAKE YOU TO YOUR GOALS

Everyone sets goals. Some people set them on their own, while others have them set for them. Some make elaborate game plans for goal achievement, writing them down in their day planner while others cut out a picture from a magazine depicting something they wish they had, and stick it on their fridge or in a book. It might be a car, a house, a dream vacation, or power shopping. In order to have a career of dreams, we must create a habit of setting, and getting, goals. Goals are simply dreams with a date on them. Think of this process as your GPS---Your Goal Positioning System!

Experts on motivation disagree on a lot of things, but one thing they all agree on is that your levels of motivation are directly tied to your expected probabilities of success. If you believe you can do something (the goals are realistic), you are highly motivated. If, however, you think you can’t (if goals are unrealistic) your motivation level falls off in a hurry.

Did you ever set a goal you failed to achieve? Ever stop in the middle of a goal? Ever fall back to your old ways? Everyone has. Want to know why? Most people set goals that are way over their heads… unrealistic. I’m all for stretching to reach meaningful goals. Yet, it’s a proven fact that if your goals are so lofty that they are, in your mind, impossible, then you’ve only got two chances of reaching them…slim and none. So, instead of these goals motivating you, they are burying you. You get paralyzed by the realization that they ain’t happenin’. Know what I mean?
Remember this little piece of advice from your Uncle Dave: “Inch by inch, anything’s a cinch. Yard by yard, It’s hard.”

Sit down and define your goal. Position that goal in a place that you can be focused and driven in it’s direction on a daily basis. Then, attach a reward you will gain when you achieve that goal. A continuous internal goal setting system will take you in the direction of your Dream career.

So, go ahead…Program that GPS. Plug in that Goal Positioning System…. identify where you want to go, lock it in, and get going. And we’ll see you on the road to success.
